Maidstone Men’s 4 th XI remain top of their league and continue to push for
promotion, after a 3-1 victory against an spirited Folkestone Optimists side.
Playing late in the day and in cold, wet conditions, Maidstone had to work
hard to get their noses in front; thankfully Scott Abbott was able to give the
home side the lead after excellent build up play from Oliver Priestley and
Andy Moodie. Maidstone continued to press and were 2-0 up at half-time after
top scorer Ian Lowe doubled the lead.
The visitors scored early in the second half and proceeded to push for an
equaliser, fortunately Maidstone captain, and man-of- the-match, Mark Bourne
was able to keep the Folkestone attackers at bay. The Blues rallied and were
able to restore their two goal cushion after Moodie and Priestley combined
once more with a slick penalty corner routine.
