It was another classic Ladies 4s game with some solid teamwork and a high work rate from so many of the Maidstone players but, once again, a score line that did not reflect the team’s performance and efforts. Maidstone knew Remnants were strong but they failed to contain their one particularly dangerous forward who dominated the game and scored all four goals.
As the season is nearing completion, the youngsters showed just how much they have gained in confidence whilst playing together in the development squad. Highlights included their promising attacking play up the right with Claudia Allsworth-Clarke, Freya Brown and joint Players of the Match Kate Smoker and Lucy Wilkinson, linking up effectively to deliver the ball into the circle. Maidstone came close to scoring but unfortunately, as has been the case most of the season, they have not quite been able to find an effective last touch!
The defence worked solidly and kept tabs on the majority of the attacking opposition with the one exception. Remnants’ speedy forward caught Maidstone out on the break and just always seemed to get herself into the right place at the right time to slot the ball home. Maidstone remain 9th out of 10 teams in the league and will finish next week with a crucial bottom of the table clash. They need at least a draw to prevent changing places with bottom position Dartford, two points behind them.
