Dartford arrived expecting to repeat their previous 11-0 whitewash with ease but found the Maidstone development side much improved and determined not to make it so easy. Maidstone had plenty of possession but unfortunately, Dartford’s lone skilful target striker was on top form once again and put them ahead by 2 goals on quick breaks. Maidstone battled back and eventually their persistent attacking was rewarded when Teresa Griffiths turned in Tracey Murphy-Bellchambers cross from the right wing. Dartford broke to score 2 more before half time though.
Rather than drop their heads, the second half saw Maidstone pick up the pace and attack with passion. They came so close to scoring on numerous occasions and solid defensive work saw them only concede one goal in the second half.
A great whole team performance. Player of match Tracey Murphy-Bellchambers lit up the attack. Young goalkeeper Niamh O’Reilly was brave and commanding against the very skilful mature forwards.
