Maidstone Ladies 4ths had to play the first 15 minutes with only 10 players due to a
car delayed in traffic, but this seemed to fire the team up and they worked at pace
from the start. They had several chances in the first half but were only rewarded in
the final minute when Nicky Bourne’s on-target short corner was handled by a player.
The resulting penalty flick was coolly converted by captain Kay Bowley.
Maidstone wobbled in the second half, giving away a penalty corner which Kings
Alleyns fired home in style. Maidstone retaliated with a break up the right wing,
crossed in by Kate Bowen to find an outstretched Nicky Coomansingh who deftly put
the ball in the corner of the net off her reverse stick. Unfortunately, Maidstone could
not cling on to their lead and gave Kings Alleyns another penalty corner, which they
again converted to level at 2-2.
Defender Helen Reeves and midfielder Kate Bowen were both strong, earning them
joint players of the match.
