Following a disappointing result last week against Marden, Maidstone Ladies 4s were determined to put in a stronger performance at home against Dartford. Despite some last-minute changes to the squad, the team stepped onto the pitch focused and ready, applying lessons learned throughout the season about communication and quick, decisive passing.
After a slightly delayed start, Maidstone quickly took control of the game, dominating possession and earning several short corners. Their persistence paid off when a rebounded shot from a Dartford defender found its way to team captain Louisa Robinson, who slotted the ball into the right corner to score her first goal of the season.
Maidstone continued to apply pressure, with strong passing play from Tegan Wimble, Nicky Bourne, and Olivia keeping the opposition on the back foot. Another short corner saw the ball rebound off a Dartford defender, falling to junior player Sasha, who seized the opportunity to fire a shot into the goal—her first of the game.
The halftime whistle blew with Maidstone 2-0 up, and the team took the break to regroup, refuel, and enjoy some Winegums for a well-earned energy boost.
Dartford started the second half with possession, but Maidstone quickly regained control thanks to tireless running and crisp passing from Sasha, Ava, and Sarah Syrett. Sasha continued her impressive performance, breaking through the Dartford defense and netting her second goal of the match.
Dartford fought back and won a short corner, but Maidstone's defensive unit, led by goalkeeper Michelle Smith, held firm to keep a clean sheet. The team remained disciplined, with Sally showcasing her skillful reverse stick passes to navigate tight situations, and Kate Bowen making well planned passes to switch play accross the pitch. Defenders Bella, Fiona Brown, and Ella Deschamps took turns to push high up the pitch, offering vital support to the midfielders.
As the game neared its end, Maidstone continued their attacking dominance, with shots on goal from Tegan Wimble, Nicky Bourne, Sarah Syrett, Olivia, and Ava. Dartford’s defense held out for a while, but a beautifully worked play involving Sarah, Sasha, and Ava ended with Ava calmly slotting home Maidstone’s fourth and final goal of the game.
With the final whistle, Maidstone celebrated a well-earned 4-0 victory—one of their most enjoyable games of the season. Every player contributed to the team's success, making the choice for Player of the Match a tough one. However, Sasha’s outstanding performance, including two goals, earned her the well-deserved accolade.
A fantastic team effort and a brilliant response to last week’s disappointment—well done, Maidstone Ladies 4s!
