The 3s knew this would be a tough game against top of the league Folkestone and Lu gave us all very clear instructions on what she expected from us as a team. From the first whistle the 3’s started strongly keeping possession well allowing us to play some good flowing hockey. The back line of Caroline , Jaime , Lu, Smithy , Bella and Vicky in goal were organised and well drilled in their defensive duties cutting out any forward threat Folkestone could offer. The mid line of Nikki, Katie, Ellie and Ava were all superb at supporting both defence and attack and creating plenty of space and providing great chances to attack.
Midway through the first half Smithy had a short corner goal disallowed for being too high but Maidstone were awarded another corner straight after and Smithy intelligently slipped the ball to her left for Julie to score.
Maidstone continued to dominate the first half with the forward line of Liv, Robyn and Hannah all working hard to try and extend our lead.
Maidstone continued to dominate the opening period of the second half and with around 10 minutes played extended their lead after some determined attacking play by Nikki allowed her to drill the ball into the D for Ellie to score.
As expected though Folkestone showed why they are top of the league and began to fight back scoring from a short corner and then finding an equaliser. Maidstone however showed some grit and worked tirelessly as a team for the last 10 minutes to make sure they secured a point. POM Julie with her excellent intercepts and goal!
