After last week’s disappointing draw Maidstone were determined to take all 3 points from today and got off to a flying start scoring in the first 5 minutes when Hannah put in a great cross from the right for Robyn to finish running in at the left post. After this, the game became a little scrappy and both teams had opportunities to score. The midfield of Ellie, Katie, Ava and Nikki were working tirelessly against a hard pressing T. Wells and broke down a lot of their attacking play, the defence of Smithy, Caroline, Lu, Bella, Jaime and Vicky in goal were making solid tackles and a few good stops from Vicky kept the score at 1-0 but unfortunately in the last few minutes of the half T.wells equalised when a lifted ball into the D caused some confusion and their forward was left with a clear shot at goal.
The second half began just as scrappy as the first ended but slowly Maidstone began to be the slightly more dominant team creating the better opportunities to score helped largely by some great skill and pace by debutant Liv on the forward line and Maidstone were rewarded when with a little under 10 minutes remaining Katie’s pass found Liv in space and she made no mistake in scoring the winning goal. Not the prettiest game but a well fought team effort. match report by Julie Davies
