Early Away Game

After last weeks defensive practice the 3's were determined to get back to winning ways to continue to push the other remaining promotion place.
The first half was a tight fought affair, the midfield of Katie, Hannah, Nikki, Jaime and Ellie worked tirelessly, battling hard in the press to win the ball and develop chances for Julie and Bethan up front with Bethan coming close to giving us the lead with a strong shot on goal which went just wide.
The defence of, Freya, Smithy, Eve, Liv, Caroline and Vicky in goal were superbly controlled in playing as a very solid unit frustrating Sevenoaks by thwarting any attack they tried to conjure, unfortunately Sevenoaks took a lucky lead 5 minutes before half time when confusion with the umpiring allowed Sevenoaks to just run straight through on goal giving Vicky no chance.
Feeling a little hard done by, and playing the better hockey, Maidstone started the 2nd half determined to make their stronger team play count and soon levelled the score when Jaime played a superb ball from the right that found Bethan a couple of feet above the penalty spot and she made no mistake in expertly dispatching a reverse flick shot into goal.
Maidstone continued to play smart hockey, with everyone working hard to press and win possession and move up the pitch together to create opportunities to take the lead and the second goal came when a short corner by the absolutely on fire Bethan.
The last 10 minutes could've been a little nervy but the defence were so well organised in breaking down any Sevenoaks attack with the rest of the team also persistently chasing and pressing to keep possession, Maidstone controlled the end of the game to ensure the win.
