Top of Table Re-Match

So this week was always going to be a tough game, no less when we realised Knole Park were playing without a goalie, so 11 out field players. The task was going to be huge with some serious defending on the cards.
Of determined mind, the whole team set themselves the task to chase down every ball and keep KP out of the D.
The team managed 10 mins with a clean sheet when a short corner got KP onto the score sheet. A second goal shortly followed. Undeterred, Maidstone kept playing our game, with short clean passing from defence through to the mid fielders of Katie, Nikki to Hannah, Ellie and up to Bethan, Millie and Julie. The hard work paid off and a short corner was awarded. Here was a real chance which Hannah kindly put away to make it 2-1.
Before half time, Maidstone conceded a penalty flick after Smithy had a "hand of god" moment to stop a ball fly into the top right corner.nThe Penalty Flick was converted along with a 4th goal to end the first half, 4-1.
Taking stock of Maidstone's strong passing in the first half, we managed to continue to rattle Knole Park ensuring play was not always going their way. Defence of Lucinda and Smithy as our centre backs commanded the marking and Liv and Freya intercepted and blocked some great KP attacking runs as well as Caroline who made some great runs up the right. With Katie as our chief disrupter getting balls through to our rottweilers of Nikki, Hannah and Ellie at times getting those all important balls to our superb forwards Bethan, Millie and Julie.
Despite the fact that Vicky made between 10-15 saves where she dived and kicked all number of incoming balls, KP secured a number of additional goals for a convincing win.
Maidstone can be proud of the all round team performance when playing the top of the league who effectively an additional player out on pitch making the task all the more challenging. POM going to our captain Lucinda. Well done to all.
