3s vs Folkestone, having gone 7 games without defeat, to then losing 2 on the bounce and been overtaken in the league by Folkestone, the 3s were determined to get back to winning ways. Maidstone started well, the defence of Caroline, Smithy, Lu, Olivia and Vicky were strong as a unit allowing the midfield of Jaime, Katie, Hannah, Ellie, Meg and Bea to enjoy good possession and create some shooting opportunities for the forward line of Bethan, Julie and Becky. Maidstone were unlucky not to take the lead 10 mins in when Jaime's brilliant high shot was just tipped round the post by the stretching keeper, however, Maidstone continued applying pressure and started to win some short corners and from one of those Meg picked up the loose ball to fire in a strong shot which the defender couldn't manage to stop and Meg had her first 3's goal to give us a well deserved lead.
Folkestone then started to show why they are 2nd in the league and began passing the ball around and keeping possession much better than they had in the first 20 mins and they deservedly found an equaliser from a good passage of play.
The 2nd half was a much harder fought game with both teams confident of getting the win, both sides equally creating good opportunities and both defences up for the challenge but the decisive goal came from an excellent passage of play from the youngsters. Bea skilfully drove down the right wing releasing a perfectly timed pass to Meg in the D who had great vision to slip the ball left to Bethan to drill the ball inside the right post for her first goal of the season.
Maidstone had to hang on and fight (Caroline!) for the last few minutes but deservedly walked away with the win. Match report by Julie Davies.
POM, Bethan. Well done youngsters
