Maidstone wanted to wipe last weeks disappointing result with a good win this weekend.
Maidstone started well, with several good attacks and corners but couldn't quite find the finishing touch. Maidstone finally went ahead, with a rebound being smashed home by Lizzie McClintock. Following this, the play was largely in Ashford's defending half but Maidstone couldn't capitalise. Ashford were quick on the break and managed to win a short corner against the run of play which they converted with a well taken strike to level the score line. 1-1 at half time.
Not long after half time, Maidstone were punished when Ashford took advantage of an overload and made it 2-1. Shortly after Maidstone were further behind when an Ashford player kicked the ball on the p spot but neither umpire blew the whistle and only that player carried on to score. Maidstone didn't panic but the whole team stepped it up a gear with intensity and calmly kept possession. This paid off when after several corners, Han Durston converted a rebound on her reverse. Soon after with some great wide attacking play from defender and POM Elle Scott, Maidstone attacked down the right with Laura Jackson linking up with Emily Bush on the post to make it 3-3. Unlucky to get another goal due to some great goalkeeping from Ashford, time was ticking. Maidstone pressed hard and managed to win more short corners. Laura Jackson pounced on another corner rebound to put Maidstone in the lead. Shortly after Lou Cassey gave Maidstone that important buffer with a well striked corner. Final score 5-3.
