Maidstone Ladies 1s back on top!

Maidstone Ladies 1st XI started 2019 with a visit from Colchester. Maidstone needed a strong start to continue their promotion campaign into 2019. That start came within 2 minutes of the game when top goal scorer Claire Weddle was able to take advantage of an airborne deflection, and volleyed the ball past the keeper to put the home side ahead.
>
> Maidstone continued to dominate in the early stages, and were able to double their lead from Weddle again. Deflecting in at the right post from a penalty corner.
>
> Shortly after Maidstone had taken a 2 goal lead, Colchester were awarded a penalty corner which they converted successfully, pulling the score back to 2-1.
>
> Maidstone held the majority of play up until half time, positive that they could build on their lead for the second half.
>
> Maidstone continued their dominance into their first game of January, with the midfield successfully commanding the centre of the pitch. Fighting for every ball, and with Player of the Match Louise Fox setting up some great attacking moves, Maidstone were able to convert a couple of penalty corners. Firstly, Louise Cassey hit the ball towards the right post, and was fortunate for the defender to only get a slight touch, but not enough to prevent it crossing the line. Secondly, a straight strike by Lizzie McLintock just tucked in at the left post putting the score at 4-1 to the home team.
>
> Maidstone continued in comfortable fashion. Defence holding tight, with Colchester only pressuring for another goal on a handful of occasions. Striker Emily Bush capitalised on a great through run by Louise Fox, and was able to make it 5-1 with a smart volley into the back of the net.
> Minutes to go, Emily Bush was able to assist Lesley Price into producing the strike of the game. A quick one two to get around the Colchester defence, allowed Price to take her chance from the top of the D, and place in the corner of the net, score 6-1 Maidstone.
>
> Maidstone’s nearest league rivals East London and Upminster were only able to draw 1-1. The well deserved 3 points for Maidstone put them back at the top of the table.
