Maidstone 0 - 2 Epsom

Last Saturday the Ladies 1s faced Epsom at home. Epsom pressed originally relatively politely, not applying too much pressure on the two centre backs. Sara, Emma, Rehannah and Grace transferred patiently which produced some wiggle room for Gabs and Gibbo upfront who had some near misses on goal. Promptly, Maidstone secured a short corner however, Epsom’s goalie predicted this well and firmly denied Emmas’ shot on goal.

Throughout the first half Frankie, Gracey, Charlotte and Alicia often worked in synchrony having someone high and wide, this text book style produced some very aesthetically pleasing play. Strong start from the Maidstone girls.

Unfortunately, the Ladies 1s got too comfortable too quickly and fell into the oppositions trap. Epsoms’ forward intercepted an out-letted ball which was going left of Maidstone defending D. With pace, Epsom penetrated the right hand side of the D and managed to slot the ball into the bottom left hand corner of the goal. For remaining 10 or so minutes of the second half there was some back and forth play with no outcomes for either team. The score sat at 1-0 to Epsom at half time.

The second half commenced and Freya had some outstanding saves, producing some lovely footage for her course work. Rightly so, Freya received player of the match for these numerous moments of greatness. Maidstone defended a few short corners on the trot well. Never the less, the time came were Epsom managed to hit the ball old school from the top of the D which slotted into the corner of the goal.

During the second half, the girls did not look as comfortable and it was clear they were definitely feeling the pressure. Like the first half, there was a lot of back and forth play for the remaining moments and the final score laid 2-0 to Epsom.

Reflecting on the game, the girls were disappointed with the outcome. However on a positive note, it was highlighted that the girls have come on leaps and bounds and have been playing more like a uni; Epsom better prepare for the return of the Ladies 1s in the New Year.

Maidstone now have a month or so off to rest the tired legs and refuel. Returning on the 13th January, they look to commence the second half of the season with a win against Folkestone on home turf.

Speaking for all the Ladies 1s, we’d like to thank every one of you who have come and watched any of our games. It is clear that we have had a hard half of the season and we appreciated all those who have given their time to come and support us. We look forward to seeing you all in the New Year!
