A step in the right direction

On Saturday the Ladies 1s travelled to Bromley & Beckenham, with the freezing conditions taking us all into December, this game was the only game going ahead for MHC.

After a productive warm up involving some ladders, a football and a few sprints here and there - the girls were defrosted and pumped ready to go for the game. With more of a positive attitude, Maidstone looked forward to the game and wanted to use this opportunity to show the opposition what they are really about.

Brom Becks had one of two skilful players, however, all in all Maidstones’ solid back four and mid line broke down the oppositions play, if this did not happen, most the time the ball would simply roll off the back line. Out-letting wise, this was a struggle at times, Izzie had a tough day in the office first half sitting at right back; she would often find herself surrounded and held hostage at the side line by three of the Brom Becks players. Never the less, with more options in field and backwards, this improved second half.

Around 15 minutes in, unfortunately Brom Becks’ luck came to show and they managed to score a goal. Following this, around 10 minutes later, the opposition managed to sneak past the First XI once again, putting away a hit from the top of the D from a short corner. The score sat at a content 2-0 to Brom Becks.

In the second half, spirits were high and communication was up. At times, the Maidstone side managed to tall together a few lovely passes with some graceful play going forward from Emma, Alicia, Char B and Frankie to get the ball to Gibbo, Gabs and Sophie up front. However, luck was not in Maidstones’ basket. Due to the girls getting slightly carried away, the opposition turned the ball over and rapidly sprinted towards goal, Brom Becks put another goal away.

The last 10 minutes, Maidstone dominated play and most play was located in the Brom Becks defending half. To Maidstones’ despair they were unable to put any goals away. The score was left 3-0 to Bromley & Beckenham.

On the bright side, it was noted the game could have been the Ladies 1s’ best performance thus far this year - a win sure is pending. Player of the match was Rehannah, followed by Grace - who were both located at centre back; intercepting multiple passes and making some crucial tackles.

Shoutout to the Mens 1s and Waller representing the Mens 3s - who the Ladies 1s would like to thank for giving their time to travel up and support the girls. Some questionable cheering on the side line but always cherished.

This coming Saturday the Ladies 1s play Epsom at home, PB 11:30. The Ladies kindly urge you to pop on your warm clothes and make your way down to Armstrong Road - as always, any support would be much appreciated.
