Maidstone 0 - 5 Sevenoaks

Last Saturday Maidstone faced Sevenoaks 2s who were nicely placed top of the league. With Maidstone firmly at the bottom, they went into the game with a we have nothing to lose attitude.

Maidstone pressed high and hard; which worked at times however sometimes the girls found their forward, mid and defence lines far apart which resulted in space for Sevenoaks to play down the middle. Sevenoaks were quick and maneuvered themselves well in-between the Maidstone team. Most play was located in Maidstone defending half, Freya was kept warm though the game and she show cased multiple brilliant moments. Never the less, before Maidstone knew it a goal was scored by Sevenoaks… and another… and another. Long story short, the girls efforts did not match the drilled Sevenoaks side and the score was 5-0 to the opposition at half time.

After a firm word from coach Greg at half time, the girls seemed to have some spring in their step going into the second half. With some efforts to conserve energy, the girls half court pressed which resulted in Sevenoaks not being able to penetrate the middle of the pitch, thus less deadly opportunities for Sevenoaks to attack through the middle. The Ladies 1s looked more of a unit and moved together in the press.

Frankie, Sophie and Gabs set the press well and often found themselves in 1-1 situations with the Sevenoaks centre backs following a turn over. Emma attempted to dominate the middle of the pitch with support from Grace and Rehannah - the two centre backs. Gracey continuously ran up and down the left side of the pitch practically begging for the ball, her efforts throughout the game did not go unnoticed and she found herself voted a well deserved player of the match following the 70 minutes.

Consequently, due to the sudden awakening from the ladies 1s, Sevenoaks did not look as dangerous. It may have been two late for a come back but Maidstone did not let the Sevenoaks side hit the back board in the second half. The score was left 5-0 to Sevenoaks at full time. A good crack at the team which are facing promotion at this moment in time.

The girls look to take their attitude and resilience, which they showed in the second half, onto following weeks. This Saturday the Ladies 1s play away at Bromley & Beckenham where they endeavour to break this losing streak.
