The ladies 1s faced Aldershot and Farnham away on Saturday. The girls arrival to the game was much like this report… late. After a 2 hour plus drive and some torrential rain; Maidstone shock off the dead and damp legs and started proactive in play.
Transfers were pinging around the back and the ball seemed to flow through the Maidstone dominated midfield consisting Emma and Alicia. Naturally, the ball continued up the pitch and progressed nicely on to the forward line. Within the first 10 minutes, a short corner was won by Maidstone. With one big swing from the captain herself, Miss Worsfold of Invicta Grammar School, the ball was beautifully placed into the far right corner.
Lovely play continued to be developed via balls being distributed nicely by Grace, Sarah, and Lou, connecting with Charlotte B, Gabs and Frankie for some attractive attacking play. The first half was very much Maidstones' Game.
The ladies went into the second half on the upper foot and looking to be more proactive off the ball to keep the strong attacking play.
Aldershot must have had a few protein bars at half time as they seemed to have woken up when stepping back onto the Astro. They pressed higher and were stronger in tackles thus Maidstone were left feeling more under pressure. Unfortunately, the cracks started to show and due to an Aldershot player dribbling down the left side of the pitch, with the ball seemly floating on her stick, Aldershot made the score line drawn at 1-1.
Maidstone attempted to keep their heads up, however, the team made up of just 12 players were puffed out and confidence was knocked. Unfortunately, 3 more goals managed to pass the disappointment Maidstone side and at full time the score was left at 4-1 to Aldershot.
The Ladies 1s reflected on their improvements throughout the weeks and once again highlighted that the score did not reflect the nicely manufactured play in the first half. A well deserved player of the match was given to Grace, who consistently saved the team on multiple occasions. Maidstone look to continue to better their game, however as well as this, they aim to execute a score line which reflects their hard work.
In two Saturdays time (4th Nov) the Ladies 1s play Brighton & Hove at home, 11:30 PB. Let’s hope Maidstone can fulfil the above prophecy. As always, any support is much appreciated.
