Maidstone Ladies 1s VS Folkestone 1s

Following the birth of two babies, 8 players leaving and a change of coach. The Ladies 1s have been prepping hard for the new season. It was well known that the first game back, facing Folkestone, was going to be a hard shift.

Maidstone set up with three at the back to allow for more options for out-letting and numbers going forward. They started strong with solid transfers and productive movement down the right hand side. Folkestone had a quick turnover which often threw the Maidstone side off due to the lack of numbers behind the ball, thankfully Freya saved the day on multiple of these occasions. Unfortunately the time came about 15 minutes in... from a well won turnover, Folkestone scored.

The girls continued to press on. Izzie, Emma and Charlotte B often linked passes and there were a few close misses of the goal from Gabs, Charlotte N and Gibbo. However, due to a mishap with the out-letting Folkestone overloaded Freya, resulting in the ball being placed into the goal. At half time, the scored sat at 2-0 to Folkestone.

Going into the final 35 minutes, in aim to confuse the well manned Folkestone press, Maidstone changed tactics setting up as a back four. Folkestone managed to adapt well to the change of defensive line and due to some tired legs on the Maidstone side, 3 more goals got though the First XI side.

Nevertheless, Maidstone continued to push on until the final minutes. Ultimately, Maidstone had the final word with Gibbo manoeuvred her way thought the oppositions defence and hitting the ball into the back of the net. For this outstanding goal and hard work throughout the game, Gibbo rightly deserved player of the match. The final score laid 5-1 to Folkestone.

The Ladies 1s have taken away some learning from the first game back and will be working on some personal fitness goals after a long break.

Next Saturday they face Guildford 2s; who have been promoted into the competitive Division. PB is 11:30am at home, please do get yourself a coffee (or a pint, it’s 5pm somewhere) and support your First XI Ladies.
