Maidstone Secure 3rd Place with a Thrilling 8-4 Victory

Last Saturday, Maidstone Ladies 4s faced off against Marden 5s in a crucial battle for third place in the league. With memories of their previous 8-0 defeat against Marden still fresh, the Maidstone team approached the game with caution. However, they quickly found their confidence when Nicky Bourne struck almost immediately, securing the opening goal.

Marden responded strongly, applying pressure and managing to break through Maidstone’s defense three times to take a 3-1 lead. But Maidstone were not ready to back down. Nicky once again delivered, scoring her second goal of the match and reducing the deficit to just one at halftime. The score stood at 2-3 in Marden’s favor as Maidstone regrouped with halftime tactics from Captain Louisa Robinson, Keeper Michelle Smith, and the returning player Wendy Carter.

Re-energized, Maidstone entered the second half with renewed determination. Young player Kiera Houlker netted the equalizer, sending the home supporters into cheers. The momentum shifted when a brilliant shot from Nicky was blocked with a foul by Marden’s defense, resulting in a penalty flick. Wendy Carter, back in Maidstone colors, stepped up and converted it with confidence, putting Maidstone ahead 4-3.

Despite strong midfield play from Maidstone, Marden continued to fight and found another breakthrough to level the game at 4-4. But Maidstone refused to let up. With crisp passing and relentless attacking play, Nicky secured her hat trick, reclaiming the lead. As the sun shone down, Maidstone surged forward, with Kiera quickly adding two more goals to her tally, joining the hat trick club.

Now leading 7-4, Maidstone kept the pressure on, and Nicky capped off her spectacular performance with a fourth and final goal, sealing an 8-4 victory. The win not only avenged their previous loss but also secured Maidstone 4s a well-earned third place in the league.
