Maidstone Ladies 4s vs. Bromley & Beckenham Ladies 5s

Louisa Coffey11 Feb - 19:40

Maidstone Ladies 4s braved the cold, rain, and a spate of injuries to secure a well-earned 5-2 victory against Bromley & Beckenham Ladies 5s in a determined away performance

Despite a depleted squad and no substitutes, Maidstone started strong, making the most of their first push back. Their early energy paid off when Thea Affleck found the back of the net for her first-ever goal, setting the tone for the match. However, Bromley & Beckenham responded swiftly, breaking through Maidstone’s defence to level the score.

Unfazed, Maidstone pressed on, with junior player Ava stepping up to reclaim the lead. Olivia quickly followed with a well-placed shot to make it 3-1, and then Kiera added a fourth, cementing a dominant first half.

The relentless rain and cold made for exhausting conditions, but at half-time, Maidstone remained optimistic despite their tired legs. A quick team talk and some much-needed sweets helped them prepare for the second half, where they knew the opposition would come back fighting.

Bromley & Beckenham restarted with intent, regaining possession and managing to pull a goal back, bringing the score to 2-4. But Maidstone were not done yet. Battling through the worsening weather, the injuries, and the pressure, the team kept pushing forward. Their persistence paid off when Thea Affleck stepped up once more to net her second goal of the game, sealing an emphatic victory for the visitors.

At the final whistle, Maidstone could celebrate an impressive 5-2 win, a testament to their resilience and teamwork. A special mention goes to Player of the Match, Thea Affleck, for her outstanding performance and first-ever goals.

With a week off before their next fixture against Marden Ladies 5s, the team will be hoping to recover and return at full strength, ready for their next challenge. Well played, Maidstone!
