Maidstone knew they would be in for a tough game against newly promoted Marden and it was a close battle in the opening quarter. Our forward line of S mithy, Robyn and Liv had some half chances and were well supported by the very hard working midfield of Jaime ,Katie, Jenny and Ellie. Vicky made some good saves but the defence of Caroline, Maddy, Lu and Sally were being put under pressure by the pure speed of the Marden youngsters and eventually that speed paid off and Marden were 2-0 up at half time.
A slight shift in positions at half time saw Sally move to a more central defensive position to keep pace with the Marden forwards, this also helped us hold shape better and apply more attacking pressure that soon paid off when Jaime crossed from the right and Liv’s touch in the D found Katie who for the second week running scored from another composed shot. Maidstone were getting stronger in possession so it was disappointing to concede a third goal however we continued to work hard for each and move the ball well and Liv pulled another goal back for us. It was a tense last 5 minutes for Marden as Maidstone continued to apply pressure in their search for an equaliser but unfortunately just ran out of time.
