3’s v Sittingbourne
First game of the season and Maidstone started strongly with some great give and go possession . Junior keeper Naomi was making her debut and was making all the correct decisions when called upon. Sally too was making her debut with the 3s and already showing she’ll be a great addition with mature defending and pushing forward the right opportunities. During the first half the defensive line of Caroline, Smithy, Sally and Lu were doing a great job of pushing play up the pitch to allow midfielders Ellie, Katie and Jaime to make brilliant driving runs forward and put in some strong crosses for forwards Becky , Liv and Robyn to attack and with good team pressing Maidstone dominated first half possession but couldn’t quite produce a finishing touch.
The second half again started strongly with the team continuing to press strongly and within 5/6 minutes we deservedly took the lead when Jaime put in an inch perfect cross to Becky in the middle of the D for her to score. Maidstone continued to press hard as a team and soon scored a second when Jaime finished off a well worked short corner. The team were now starting to enjoy themselves spreading play around the pitch with everyone really supporting each other making the passes so much easier and the 3rd goal came when another fantastic run and cross down the right from Jaime found Katie perfectly placed in the d to score with a great placed strike. Then with 5 minutes remaining all of Liv’s brilliant attacking play was rewarded when she calmly converted a penalty stroke by sending the keeper the wrong way to make the final score 4-0. An extremely strong all round team performance meant a lot of candidates for Pom but the award went to Liv who had an exceptional game.
