Mens 3s vs K Sports

This highly anticipated fixture (originally postponed in December due to a frozen pitch) saw MHC 3’s take on K-Sports 2’s under the lights at the horrendously uneven pitch at Cobdown.

Memories of Maidstone's previous 4-1 victory in scorching 32 degree heat coupled with the visiting sides recent form was a good sign of things to come prior to the match commencing.

Maidstone dominated possession for the majority of the game, top scorer Ash Messenger was played through on goal from a variety of the Maidstone cohort and to everyone’s surprise failed to find the net on several occasions.

Overall the first half was relatively feisty, but in a positive way against two sides desperate to win this matchup - rather than an aggressive one that Maidstone have experienced recently against other teams in the league.

The game was not short of second half drama; with Logan Black finding himself in the spotlight after receiving two cards which altered the dynamics on the field, the formation and Wallers tactics. Despite several opportunities from Waller and Ash in open play, Maidstone couldn't capitalize, especially evident in their inability to convert four short corners, leaving the scoreline deadlocked.

Frustration mounted as all three central midfielders had shots saved or blocked by K-Sports keeper and defenders. Ash encountered further hurdles, being tackled by an unaccompanied stick on the floor and even tripped by the opposition's keeper. Maidstone’s defence had little to do, but when called upon stood strong during what was in the end quite a battle.

Thankfully, fortune smiled upon Maidstone as other teams in their vicinity also ended their matches in draws, meaning the league table positions remained the same.

With this result, Maidstone now look ahead to the next challenge away at Burnt Ash, determined to regroup and refocus for the battles that lie ahead in the second half of the season.
