Maidstone Ladies 1s finish on a high
Maidstone Ladies 1’s finished their season on a high this Saturday with a 3-2 defeat over Tunbridge Wells Ladies 1's.
Maidstone didn’t start the game as they would have liked and some lapses in concentration led to two goals from Tunbridge Wells during the first half, as the home side fought hard against relegation. Maidstone had their chances with efforts from Emily Bush and Katie Gibbons being saved by the keeper. Some strong words at half time produced a different Maidstone team for the second half. Joint player of the match Elle Scott made some great runs down the right wing eventually leading to a penalty corner. Hannah Durston’s initial deflection hit the crossbar before the ball ended up back to her, this time taking no chances and pushing straight into the goal. Emily Bush then won a penalty flick for Maidstone which captain, Hannah Durston stepped confidently forward to take. A spectacular dive and save from Tunbridge Wells keeper prevented Maidstone bringing it back level. However, the chances kept coming for Maidstone and joint player of the match, Laura Jackson slotted a goal in at the back post to finally bring Maidstone level. The winning goal came from Laura Jackson again after some great team play in midfield saw Emily Bush pass the ball across the goal for Laura to push into the back of the net. After already securing promotion to East Prem last week, this result cemented Maidstone’s 3rd place finish.
