Maidstone Ladies 2s 2 - Old Bordenians 1s 1
By Lizzie Mcclintock
Great team performance for the ladies 2s to get a much needed win
With every game now a must win situation and a couple of key players missing Maidstone decided to play a different formation for this match. For the first 5 minutes or so Maidstone were a little under pressure as everyone worked out their new positions but soon found their feet and began to dominate play. Chances were beginning to come and midway through the first half Claire Daniels latched onto a cross from Gabs O’Reilly to smash the ball into the goal and give Maidstone the lead. Daniels was unlucky minutes later when she drove into the d and fired a ferocious shot that hit the post. Maidstone were working tirelessly as a whole unit with every player relentlessly sticking to the task and frustrating the opposition.
Maidstone continued to be the better team at the start of the second half and 10 minutes in a Julie Davies shot through the keepers legs was finished off by Rachel Davies to put Maidstone 2-0 up. With no subs and legs beginning to tire Maidstone conceded a goal from a very well worked short corner by old bords and with 10-15 minutes remaining Maidstone began to come under a bit of pressure. However the great team ethic of working as a whole unit was paying off and old bords couldn’t find a way through the stubborn Maidstone defense resulting in a 2-1 win for Maidstone, and just to prove what a team performance it was every Maidstone player received at least half a player of the match vote but the accolade was shared between Amanda Gates and Rachel Davies.
