Close mid table match for the ladies 2s

With both teams sitting mid table on even points this was always going to be a close match with both teams having equal opportunities in the first half. Maidstone were unlucky not to take the lead after some good work by Gracie Wilsher and Jen Duggan resulted in Julie Davies having a shot that was deflected just wide of the top corner. Goalkeeper Maddy Grove was making some terrific saves but Maidstone were unlucky to concede in the first half when several players stopped for an injury but the umpire let play go on and Folkestone thumped the ball home to lead 1-0 at half time.
Maidstone were caught half asleep at the restart with Folkestone straight from the off winning and converting a short corner to make it 2-0.
Maidstone then began to find their form with the defense staying strong allowing the midfield to push forward and some good work from youngsters Rachel Davies and Gabs O’Reilly managing to force some short corners. The breakthrough however came when midfielder Jenny Duggan placed a superb ball into the d and Julie Davies just took the touch on the reverse to steer the ball home beyond the advancing keeper. Maidstone were now pushing hard for an equaliser and were unlucky when with the last touch of the game Vic O’Reilly’s ferocious shot was just about saved by the Folkestone keeper for them to just hold onto the 2-1 win. Player of the match for Maidstone went to the hard working midfielder Gracie Wilsher.
