This game was set to be a a strong fight between two teams battling to stay out of the relegation zone. It certainly lived up to its expectations with plenty of drama and controversy. Maidstone continued their strong form seen over the past three weeks putting Anchorians under pressure from the start and were rewarded with a goal from a well worked short corner. Madeleine Jarvis cleanly received a ball at the top of the D and coolly slipped it to Sarah Day who finished it off with a perfect strike into the left corner of the goal. The first half saw Claire Hogan receive a green card and a 2 minute ban, despite frustration Maidstone held strong and worked as a unit to hold Anchorians off.
The second and third goal both came in the second half from open play with great positioning in front of the keeper by Charlotte Nudd to deflect one in and Claire Hogan on a second deflection from the keeper. Further frustrations were evident across both teams with what was felt to be slightly harsh decisions by the opposition umpire and Maidstone’s captain being given a green card and a 2 minute ban. Despite this Maidstone rose above it and dug deep as a team to secure another strong win.
