Great win for the ladies 1s

Maidstone had a very strong start to the game, maintaining possession of the ball and creating lots of opportunities from open play. It only took 3 minutes for Maidstone to take the lead from a rebound off the keeper, with Lesley Price putting it into the goal. Then on the front foot, Maidstone came at Norwich again with some nice play down the left hand side, working the ball to Susie Rowe whose reverse stick strike saw the ball fly superbly past the keeper. The game continued to go Maidstone's way with only a few unsuccessful chances by Norwich to counterattack. Until that is, a sequence of open play ended with the Maidstone goalkeeper on the floor to enable a Norwich forward to lift the ball into the net to make it 2-1. Maidstone stayed positive and continued to apply pressure back and when some nice link up play found Player of the Match Lizzie McClintock in the D, the shot was on and the ball found the net making it 3-1 at half time.

Maidstone came out strong again at the start of the second half and after only 6 minutes it was Emily Bush on the back post who was free to place the ball into the goal to increase the lead to 4-1. Maidstone by now were positive and playing with great intensity to create further opportunities to score. Another 5 minutes in, Lizzie McClintock received the ball at the top of the D to take a straight hit into the bottom corner of the goal, 5-1. Norwich still tried to get themselves back into the match and with some poor defensive communication by the home side, were able to find an unmarked player in the D who dived to ensure the ball found the backboard and finish the scoring. This did give Norwich some confidence to push for another and win some last minute short corners, however, Maidstone cleared well and the game ended at 5-2.
