Maidstone Ladies 1st XI welcomed Crostyx Ladies 1st XI to Armstrong Road for Saturday's match. Maidstone started the game well, passing the ball around the pitch with pace and creating opportunities moving forward. Despite a number of forays into the opposition area from Player of the Match Katie Gibbons, Maidstone were unable to convert their opportunities into goals. Crostyx continued to add pressure on Maidstone’s defence, resulting in a goal after a successful short corner routine and the half ended 0-1 to the away team.
Unfortunately, tragedy struck early in the second half when striker Lesley Price took an accidental deflection to the face resulting in her early departure from the game. Once play resumed after a somewhat lengthy break, Maidstone’s persistence and commitment paid off with a well worked short corner move from Lizzie McClintock to set up a goal for on-form Claire Weddle. Close to the end of the match Maidstone were lucky not to caught on the break with everyone in attack pushing for a winner but the match ended in a 1-1 draw. Maidstone look to take on Blueharts next week, hoping to build momentum and return to their winning ways.
