It is also our sad duty to report the death of Rita Buss, wife of George, on 17 October, aged 87. George is one of the Club's Life Vice Presidents, and Rita gave great support to George, the Club and its activities. Rita was also the sister of Sydney Smith, another of our Life VPs. A 'Celebration of Life' Service was held at Holy Cross Church, Bearsted - the club was represented by past and present members.

CLUB AWARD WINNERS 2006/07
This year's dinner/dance was held at the new clubhouse on friday 18 May, when members, partners and friends were presented with a 'royal' feast by the club's own caterer Billie Wyatt. After the meal the live entertainment was provided by the Ladies 1st XI coach, 'Johnners', that veritable Robbie Williams 'double', and then a rousing disco to conclude the event. A fantastic evening.
But it was also the opportunity to celebrate the club's individual award winners for the season. These were -
Ladies
player of the season - Laura Thompson
most improved players - Lisa Bolton & Lauren Sutherland
young player of the year - Katie Gibbons
top goalscorer - Julie Davies (30)
Men
player of the season - Nick Leatherbarrow
most improved player - Joe Martin
young player of the year - Mike Smith
top goalscorer - Steve Waldrom (34)
Clubperson of the Year
Mike Chapman
Congratulations to everyone

LADIES WIN THE CUP!
In a fantastic final, the Ladies 1st XI won the Kent Cup on Sunday 13 May, beating Holcombe 3-2. Despite pouring rain, a really large crowd turned out at Holcombe Hockey Club for the finale of the Kent Hockey season - watching 3 cup finals and the presentation of promotion awards.
In the first half Maidstone were pretty dominant, and went two up by half time, through goals by Kirsty Hotson and Lauren Penny. Soon after the break Maidstone scored another, through Kirsty again, and you could have been forgiven for thinking the match was over. But a spirited fight back by Holcombe (scoring 2 goals in 5 minutes) made for an exciting, if nail-biting, finish.
Fantastic result by the ladies, who did Maidstone proud. The club's congratulations go to the whole squad, captain Vanessa Lines, manager Chris Daniels and coach 'Johnners'. All we need now is a trophy cabinet...............
And talking of trophies, there were more presentations on the day to Maidstone teams, recognising their promotions from divisions in the Kent Leagues. So additional congratulations to:
Carly Emery & Ladies 4ths
Matt Oakley & Mens 3rds
Phil Brown & Mens 5ths
