National Indoor Hockey

Maidstone Ladies competed at the National League South Championships in Croydon during the weekend of 8/9 Janary. They started brightly on Saturday against Horsham, but were unlucky not to score more goals and had to settle for a 4-4 draw. The second game against Cambridge was a different story, however, with some brilliant attacking play and wonderful team goals seeing Maidstone to a 7-3 win and into a promising position for Sunday.

They couldn't find the same level of intensity against St Albans, however, and lost the game 5-2. The second game against Harrow was going to be crucial, with Maidstone needing a win to keep qualification in their own hands. Things were looking good with 1 minute to go and Maidstone leading 4-3, but a late Harrow penalty stroke saw them equalise with virtually the last touch of the game. That meant that Maidstone had to beat the competition leaders East Grinstead and rely on on Horsham to drop points against St Albans, but sadly it wasn't to be. Despite some brilliant play which saw them fight back from 3 goals down, they eventually lost the game 3-4.

Jess Cremin was brilliant throughout the weekend for Maidstone, scoring 12 goals, with Lizzie Daniels and Jody Goodwin each scoring two each, Annabelle Rowe and Laura Leatherbarrow each with one. Rhiannon Dennison, Maidstone's new player from New Zealand, made a bright start scoring three goals, and will remain with the club until the end of the season.

The Men also came fourth at the Indoors.

Maidstone can still be very proud of their performances in what has been a very successful indoor season overall.
