Edgy

It was fair to say that Maidstone went into this game with a touch of complacency against the team propping up the division and they subsequently went 1-nil down in the first 5 minutes. Canterbury showed form which belied their position in the league and Maidstone realised that they were going to have to work for the points.

Maidstone levelled the scoring after a surging run from Richard Chilcott down the right wing saw his pinpoint cross deflected by Mark Rimmer past the Canterbury goalkeeper. Although Canterbury had the majority of the play Maidstone broke in numbers and Ollie Mitchell gave Maidstone the lead with a ruthless finish from the top of the D after riding a few challenges along the way. Maidstone increased their lead through Jeremy Swaffer with a big hit from the top of the D after earning a short corner.

The second half was a scrappy affair, again Canterbury dominated the midfield but their lack of fire power up front prevented them making inroads into the Maidstone lead. Mark Christmas was solid in the Maidstone defence for his man-of-the-match performance but not even he could prevent an inevitable well worked Canterbury goal.

This set up a very tense last 10 minutes but Maidstone found a way through when Canterbury failed to clear their lines and Adam Barlow swept home the goal which secured the points.
