Maidstone Mens 5s
Herne Bay 4
|Date||Saturday 5th November|
|Scorers||Thompson, Davidson (2), Kirit Parmar, Nigel Swaffer (3), Boyne, Mark Weller|
Maidstone scored 10 of the 11 goals in this comprehensive victory.
After a shaky start two quick goals were scored by Thompson and Davidson –both following up on the far left wing post following fine crosses from the right. Herne Bay replied against the run of play but found themselves two behind again very shortly after scoring when another cross from the right found Davidson on hand again for a copy cat goal.It was important Maidstone concentrated in the second half as it was always likely that the home side could score on the break. However early second half goals from Parmar and Swaffer gave Maidstone the buffer they needed. Then the most comedic own goal saw Smith kick the ball into his own net to give Herne Bay a glimmer of hope. However 3 goals in ten minutes from Swaffer ( converting a fine hit into the “D” from Angea, ) Boyne and Swaffer again ( this time with an untypical reverse stick) put the game beyond Herne Bay’s reach, and the rout was completed with Weller striking with the last hit of the game. Much of the success was balancing the side’s experience with the fine performances from the 5 youngsters in the squad.
