Maidstone Mens 2s
|Date||Saturday 1st October|
|Scorers||Ollie Mitchell (3), Jamie Fitzgerald, Mark Rimmer|
Maidstone visited a confident Folkestone side, newly promoted from last year and it was the home side that settled into the game quicker dominating possession and territory before going 1- nil up after 15 minutes following a break from the middle of the park.
Maidstone began to find their feet after the goal and responded 5 minutes later when Mark Rimmer took on the last defender at the top of the D before squaring the ball to Ollie Mitchell to slot home. Maidstone began to dominate the play and had some luck when a lifted cross from Jamie Fitzpatrick hit the post and bounced back onto the Folkestone keeper who could not prevent it from crossing the goal line.
In the second half Folkestone controlled most of the possession but could not create any chances against a resolute Maidstone defence. With a lack of possession Maidstone were restricted to a few counter attacks but surging runs by Ollie Mitchell from the midfield and his composure in front of goal proved too much for Folkestone as he wrapped up his hat-rick in style.
Rimmer completed the scoring with a tap in towards the end following another counter attack which capped a rather flattering score line but Maidstone, with plenty of new faces in the team, will be satisfied with how the team bonded and look forward to a tough match against Sevenoaks next week.
