Eleven Goal Thriller
Maidstone Mens 2s came out victorious by a single goal, in an eleven-goal thriller against an experienced Sevenoaks side.
Chris Brinn rolled back the year(s) in his first game of the season for the Mens 2s, and helped the Maidstone side to an early lead. Both sides looked threatening on the attack and goals appeared to be possible at both ends. Maidstone pushed themselves towards a 4-2 lead through goals from Jeff Dummett and Tom Starling. However, the visitors fought back in the second half to level the scores at 4-4, thanks to some lapses in defensive organisation.
The home crowd were treated to a tense finale as the result looked as though it could swing either way. Once again Maidstone were strong defending penalty corners, and had the Sevenoaks routines firmly in their collective pockets. Jamie Fitzgerald, and a hat-trick goal from Tom Starling - in his debut season for the 2s - gave the result to Maidstone. The Armstrong Roaders were able to resist a late surge from Sevenoaks and hold on to the game.
A solid all round performance doubled both the Mens 2s points and goal tallies.
