Maidstone Mens 2s
Sutton Valence 2
|Date||Saturday 20th October|
The Mens 2s made the journey to Sutton Valence to face a strong Valence team looking for revenge for their 1st XIs loss the week earlier. Unfortunately for eleven man Maidstone, SV weren’t disappointed as they romped their way to a confident 11-0 victory.
The Maidstone Men did not start the day well. Firstly, illustrious Captain Richard Chilcott was bitten by a dog outside the ground – apparently it was a Great Dane. The bad omen was a precursor for what happened next as 10 man Maidstone began their pre-match ritual of stretching and ribbing Nelly, without Tim Chapman. Word on the street is that he was running late as his girlfriend was straightening his hair (*fact).
Maidstone started the first half admirably, and kept a good structure against an organised and threatening Sutton Valence side. After 20 minutes honours were still even… then the SV midfield then stick-blocked their way to a four goal lead. At this point things get a little hazy, but I am assured that Valence scored a couple more. C’est la vie.
Credit should go to man of the match Nigel, who stepped up to the second team and had a great game in tough circumstances. Thanks also to Mick for umpiring and for keeping count.
Next week Maidstone should be back up to strength and are back at home eager to gain their first points of the season. Some say our current lack of form is due to the ending of the £1.50 of 4 for £5 bottles of beer offer…
