Maidstone Mens 5s
Gillingham Anchorians 3
|Date||Saturday 13th October|
|Scorers||Nigel Swaffer (3), Luke Clarkson|
It took a while to settle down with most attacks being directed down the middle through man of the match Tim Chambers. Maidstone opened the scoring with a determined run by Nigel Swaffer who slotted home firmly. Anchorians looked confused when play was in their “D” and following up a shot Luke Clarkson extended the lead with his first goal for the team. It was not one way traffic and Maidstone had to stand firm in defence with Graham Clarkson, Andy Parkes and Ali Brown holding firm and Mark Smith in goal was up to those efforts which got through. Strong running in midfield by Duncan Ford, and the slippery Mark Weller help gain some attacking impetus and following a short corner strike by Parkes, Swaffer was on hand to swoop the rebound into the net. Indeed it was the same combination that saw Maidstone’s fourth, when a strong free hit found its way into the circle for Swaffer to deflect home. Anchorians never surrendered and keep most of the initiative in the second half but that only resulted in one repost.
