Maidstone Mens 6s

This week the squad for Maidstone's development side featured 8 14/15 year olds, all of whom played some really good hockey. Maidstone dominated the game against Sevenoaks 7's, and played their best hockey of the season, with some quick accurate passing. Old boys Simon Wood and Mick Emery combined well to go 1 up in the first 5 minutes, but despite 80%possession Maidstone failed to find the finishing touch to extend their lead. In deed 2 breakaway goals for Sevenoaks meant the home side was 2 v 1 down at the break. The first 20 minutes of the second half mirrored exactly the same as the first, with Maidstone scoring early through Zach Stiff, then being hit with 2 breakaway goals. With 10 minutes to go Maidstone finally started to hit the target, as Simon Wood scored a second neatly diverted shot. Maidstone pressed forward and when a Sevenoaks defender stopped a goal bound shot with his foot, an equaliser looked on the cards. The resultant flick however, was mis flicked and easily saved. Maidstone now embedded in the Sevenoaks 25 were awarded a second flick for another foot on the line, and Simon Wood made up for his previous miss when his flick found the roof of the net, bring scores level and completing his hat trick. Ashley Hughes making his debut played really well, but man of the match went to midfielder Simon Emery.
