Know The Rules?
Maidstone 5ths continued where they left off from last week, with some very impressive hockey. With 8 juniors in the squad of 15 fitness was not going to be an issue, against BBHC. Maidstone controlled the game from the start with some great passing and movement off the ball and went 1 up after a slick move was neatly converted by Luke Clarkson. This was quickly followed by a second equally well taken goal by Jack Slattery. BBHC were pinned in their half for the remainder of first period, but managed to keep the score down to two.
The second half saw the home team make some tactical substitutions, and for the first time in the match put Maidstone's defence under some pressure, but youngsters Jamie Graham and Daniel Bairstow where in fine form and ensured keeper Nick Cornford didn't have to face a shot all match. Joe Drake scored a third goal from a well taken short corner, only for it to disallowed for not stopping the ball outside the circle, a rule that was revoked almost 5 years ago. Maiden visit Maidstone next week for what is always a well contested local derby.
