Maidstone travelled to Sevenoaks for the second time this season, this time in the National Cup. Having held them to a 0 – 0 draw in the league, Maidstone felt they could gain a result here again and progress to the Quarter Finals.

The game started openly, with Maidstone having more possession than the home side in the early stages. Chances were created but unfortunately none of them stuck and the visitors were forced to pay 20 minutes in, when one of Sevenoaks’s skilful youngsters rounded the last defender and struck the ball with confidence to take the lead.

Buoyed by their goal, the home side doubled their lead, going into the break at 2 – 0. Maidstone’s determination never dropped, however, and the visitors knew that if they could score soon after the break they would be right back in it. Short corners and open play chances were created but Sevenoaks’s defence held firm and refused to concede.

As the game went on, Maidstone continued to give 100% but unfortunately the final result ended 3 – 0 and it was Sevenoaks who progress to the Quarter Finals. They will face last year’s champions, Surbiton, and Maidstone will continue to focus on the league.
