First Half Strike Secures 3 Points
Maidstone faced bottom of the league side Wapping this week. Despite their league position the visitors knew the London side would put up a good, physical fight in the way they always do. Maidstone started the strongest although Wapping also threatened in the early stages, throwing numbers forward with each attack.
It was the visitors who capitalised on their supremacy when a fine save from the Wapping keeper off an initial short corner strike fell to Hannah Durston (sponsored by Whitehead Monckton) who had time to line up a strike that rose perfectly over the keeper who was still on the ground: 1 – 0.
Maidstone stayed in control of the game for the remainder of the first half and going into the break the score remained the same. Wapping came out fighting in the second half, however, and enjoyed the majority of the possession, putting the visitors under pressure for sustained periods. They couldn’t finish with conviction, however, and keeper Jenny Vincent (sponsored by Harlequin) and her well-organised defensive unit kept out any serious threats.
The visitors closed out the game with no further score and enjoyed gaining the 3 points they felt they deserved.
Player of the match went to Hannah Durston.
