Maidstone Ladies 1s
St Albans 2

Strong Defensive Performance
The hosts came out of the blocks the fastest in this encounter and didn’t let Maidstone get a sniff of the ball for the first 15-20 minutes of the game as they dominated possession and camped in the visitors’ half. The defensive unit held strong, however, and denied St Albans from registering on the score sheet. An excellent save from keeper Jenny Vincent (sponsored by Harlequin) epitomised the solidarity at the back.
As the half moved on, Maidstone worked the ball out of their half and created some chances of their own. Rachel Thompson (sponsored by Whitehead Monckton) forced a fine save off a penalty corner from the St Albans keeper, and the teams went into the break without a score.
The second half was an even affair, with the game opening up as the minutes ticked by. Both sides had chances but both defences held strong and prevented any score. Maidstone had the best of possession towards the end of the game and Hannah Durston (sponsored by Whitehead Monckton) forced a save off the helmet of the home keeper who ensured the game ended 0 – 0; a good point away from home.
Player of the match went to Rachel Thompson for a great defensive performance whilst also displaying good vision to aid the attacking unit.
