Disappointing Defeat

A long trip away to Bedford for Maidstone Ladies 1s ended in a disappointing defeat, in what was a tough game. Bedford started the stronger team, forcing several excellent saves from Player of the Match, Jenny Vincent.

As the first half progressed the pressure increased further from Bedford, and shortly before half time, Laura Leatherbarrow made a crucial save on the line to ensure Bedford did not take the upper hand.

Maidstone took confidence from this vital save and came out the stronger side at the start of the second half, showing more urgency and confidence as the forward line created chances.  This period of good play culminated in a penalty flick being awarded to Maidstone, which unfortunately they were unable to capitalise.

The missed stroke was a signal for Bedford to re-group and subsequently Maidstone  drifted.  Whilst Vincent continued to make some vital saves, Bedford registered first on the scoresheet.

Following the goal Maidstone were again kept busy at the back as both Laura Thompson and Leatherbarrow combined to save another crucial penalty corner chance.   However the opposition eventually managed to break through and scored their second and final goal.

Bedford were the stronger side and dominated much of the game, but the resolve and heart shown by Maidstone was a real positive for the team.
