Good Work Despite the Svore

Maidstone travelled to second place St Albans on Saturday, in the first of two weekend fixtures.

On a slow, dry pitch Maidstone held their own from the start, and kept the home strikers at bay by virtue of hard work coming from every member of the team. The teams went into the break at 0-0 keen to ensure that last week’s second half performance wasn’t repeated.

Chances were created at both ends although the home side enjoyed more possession. Their persistence eventually paid when a player was fouled in the D 7 minutes into the second half which resulted in a penalty stroke which was duly converted.

Maidstone were then caught straight from the pushback and St Albans dispatched a further chance created by a loose ball just one minute later, giving themselves an uphill struggle at 2-0 down.

The Kent side, determined to get back into the game, worked hard to win possession, and despite taking the game to St Albans for the remaining 25 minutes, they were unable to create any clear-cut chances to capitalise on. A counter-attacking goal in the 69th minute resulted in a 3-0 scoreline which the visitors felt was an unfair reflection on the game.
