ENGLAND HOCKEY'S NEW SINGLE SYSTEM
FOR YOUNG PEOPLE
Maidstone Hockey Club is proud to be the base for one of the 5 new sub-county centres for Junior Development (JDC) and for the Kent Junior Academy (JAC). The other 4 JDCs are based at Canterbury, Holcombe, Sevenoaks, and Bexley.
These Centres are part of England Hockey’s “Single System” plan to ensure a clear and consistent pathway for juniors (girls and boys) aged between 12 and 17 to progress from their Club or school through to (potentially) national level. The first step for talented youngsters is selection for one of the 5 JDCs - the best will progress to the Kent Junior Academy - the best again will move on to a Junior Regional Performance Centre (JRPC) - and then potentially the national squad. Youngsters will receive quality coaching and development opportunities.
The Mid Kent JDC’ starts operation in September 2008 with a 12 week programme for girls and boys, U12s and U13s (born in 1997 & 1996), to be completed by Christmas. Each year another age group will be added until 2012, when all 6 age groups will be accommodated. The gradual roll out is to ease the implementation burden, which is considerable.
The Kent Junior Academy commences its activity in January 2009, again with a 12 week programme but for U13s only. It too will increase in size each year by taking additional age groups
The two Centres based at Maidstone are being run in collaboration with Sutton Valence Hockey Club and Sutton Valence School to ensure their effective management and to increase the numbers of pitches at our disposal.
MID KENT JDC
Selection
Only 25 girls and 25 boys in each age group are able to be accommodated, so there is competition. To agree on selection, a "Hockey Fun Day" is organised for Sunday 14th September, at Maidstone Hockey Club. U12s = 12 noon U13s = 2.30pm.

Under 12s
The programme will run on Tuesday evenings (6pm to 7.30) for 8 weeks and then on Sunday afternoons (2.30pm) for 4 weeks. Course starts Tuesday 30th September. All activity is on the all-weather pitch, at Sutton Valence Upper School.
Under 13s
The Programme will run on Monday evenings (5.30pm to 7pm) for 8 weeks and then on Sunday afternoons (2.30pm) for 4 weeks. Course starts Monday 29th September. All
activity is on the all-weather pitch, at Maidstone Hockey Club.
KENT JUNIOR ACADEMY
Only 25 girls and 25 boys U13 are able to be accommodated. These will be selected by the coaching teams running the 5 JDCs.
The programme will run on Sunday afternoons (2.30pm) for the full 12 weeks), and is expeted to start on Sunday 11th January 2009. All activity is on the all-weather pitch, at Maidstone Hockey Club.
