Fund Raising
The Club is always looking at ways to raise additional funding to support the running costs.
Maidstone Half Marathon 2011
This season the Club was asked, once again, to supply c50 marshals for the annual Maidstone Half Marathon - on Sunday 16th October 2011. This is about the fourth year we've been asked.
It was a fantastic day. Like the last three events, this was held in really good weather - clear skies, warm, great views on the Downs. In fact it must have been too hot for the runners! Great, and noisy, supporters turned out along the way to cheer the runners on.
Afterwards the marshals met back at the hockey clubhouse for a super bar-b-que and a drink. Many members of Maidstone Harriers joined us.
For this activity the Hockey Club receives a donation from the organisers - Maidstone Harriers. Incidentally, Maidstone Harriers are based at the hockey clubhouse. This was (as ever) a good, and fun, way to raise money for the club - and it supports a fellow sports club and a town sporting activity.
The marshall organisers were Claire & James Daniels - They did a fantastic job. Thanks to them and all those who volunteered for marshalling work. This work was much appreciated by the runners, who have made many very complementary remarks - see www.runnersworld.co.uk
