England Hockey Single System

Maidstone Hockey Club is proud to be the base for one of the 8 sub-county centres for Junior Development (JDC) and for a Kent Junior Academy (JAC) for Girls. The other 7 JDCs are based at Canterbury, Sittingbourne, Chatham, Sevenoaks, Folkestone, Sidcup and Bexley. The other 3 JACs are at Chatham, Sittingbourne and Tonbridge.

These Centres are part of England Hockey's "Single System" plan to ensure a clear and consistent pathway for juniors (girls and boys) aged between 12 and 17 to progress from their Club or school through to (potentially) national level. The first step for talented youngsters is selection for one of the 8 JDCs - the best will progress to the Kent Junior Academy - the best again (U15s upwards) will move on to a Junior Regional Performance Centre (JRPC) - the best again (U15s upwards) will progress to a High Performance Assessment Camp (HPAC) - and then potentially the national squad (U16 upwards). Youngsters will receive quality coaching and development opportunities.

In Kent the JDCs and the JACs will increase in size each year by taking additional age groups. In Autumn 2010 we handled U12s, U13, U14s & U15s; in Autumn 2011 we add U16s , and so on. The system in Kent is led by a Junior County Co-ordinator (see below), who has the support of a sub group from Kent Hockey Association. The KHA is ultimately responsible in this county.

Mid Kent JDC

The JDC for 2011 started in early September. The programme ran between September and November. U12s (pre-JDC), U13s & U14s at the Sutton Valence Upper School pitch on Monday evenings at 6pm. U15s & U16s at either Holcombe HC or Tonbridge School. These coaching sessions ran for about 10 weeks, then action was switched to tournaments.  
The best U13s & U14s are sent by the coaches in January to trial for the JAC.

Kent Junior Academy - Girls

On Sunday afternoon 8th January 2012 JDC players (Girls U13 & U14), put forward by their coaches, compete in a final JAC assessment. These will be whittled down to about 30 in each age group. The JAC coaching sessions proper will start on 15th January, and run until the end of March. Matches with other Counties are arranged, below.
As far as JAC centres go, Maidstone is hosting the U13 and U14 girls, Tonbridge the U15 girls and U16 girls, Bordenians the U13 boys, Sevenoaks the U14 boys, and Holcombe the U15 boys and U16 boys.

JAC (Kent County) Results 2011

In the Regional Tournaments on 15th May 2011, the Kent Girls U13s were champions (U13) and the U14s were runners up (U14). So well done both.
